Drones Picking Items in a Warehouse?
Drones aren’t just for inventory counting any more.
They are now picking eaches!
Utilizing tethered drones, these drones from @HummingbirdSystems have continuous power so they don’t need to stop to charge.
They can also pick an item and drop it directly to an AMR below for easy transportation to the next step in your operational workflow.
Another benefit is the ability to increase how high your pick faces can go.
The human reach is limited without needing to get a step stool, ladder or other equipment which can create a safety risk.
With the drone, you can increase the height of your pick faces and maximize your cube even further.
This is a very different way to look at picking and certainly is much different than any other solutions we are seeing on the market now.
It might seem a little out there but Nick Saunders is all in on bringing this to the market with some pilots already under way and his experience bringing Quiet Logistics and Locus Robotics to life along with his co-founder Bruce Welty.
This Wednesday our episode of The New Warehouse will release featuring Nick discussing this solution so be sure to tune in!
What do you think about this approach to picking?
